eFootball team playstyles 2026: all six and a formation for each

Six team playstyles shown by the game itself, one of them new and explained in detail by Konami. Here's what we know with sources — and what isn't published, we say isn't published.

Official from KonamiInference

“Best formation for quick counter” is one of the most searched eFootball questions — but before the formation you need the style itself. In eFootball every team has a playstyle, and every manager has a proficiency level in each style. Let's start from the game's own text.

The six styles, as the game names them

The game's team playstyle proficiency screen (the ⓘ button) lists six styles:

#English nameIn the game's Arabic version
1Possession Gameالاستحواذ على اللعب
2Quick Counterهجمة مرتدة سريعة
3Long Ball Counterكرة طويلة مضادة
4Out Wideالكرات العرضية
5Long Ballكرة طويلة
6Overloadالضغط الزائد

“Overload” and “Long Ball Counter” appear by name on Konami's official v6.0.0 page; two of the English names (Out Wide · Long Ball) come from community guides rather than an official page.

Why your manager's proficiency matters

Every manager in the game has a proficiency value for each of the six styles, and the game's own text says this value will affect the players' abilities. In short: the style your manager masters best suits your team — as long as it also suits your players.

An example seen on a player's screen: when he switched his team to a style his manager rates 89 instead of 57, his team strength rose from 3091 to 3317. Inference That's one example showing the direction — not a formula: Konami hasn't published how big the effect is, so we don't invent a calculation.

Overload: the new style

Konami added it in version 6.0.0 and described it on the official page:

Using Overload, you can concentrate your players on the same side as the ball to achieve numerical superiority. When attacking, it makes it easier to complete passes at short distances, and you can steadily maintain possession even in crowded areas. When defending, your team can maintain a compact shape, while quickly closing in on ball carriers and stopping opponents from attacking freely.

We haven't quoted detailed descriptions for the other five here, because we haven't documented them yet from the game's text or an official page — only their names come from the game.

The best formation for each style?

The honest answer: Konami doesn't publish an “official formation” per style, and the best one is the one that fits your players. That's why the Smart Coach in Cptn PES builds your arrangement from your own cards. Still, here are formations from the app's Player Positions library — labeled “popular in the community” in the app itself, not a Konami list:

How the Smart Coach helps

  • “⚡ Full scan” reads your squad and manager from the game screen and suggests a formation and style — like “4-1-2-3 · Possession Game” in a real screenshot.
  • “Best Managers” shows the strongest managers who master your formation's style, with their proficiency as shown in the game.
  • “Playstyle Simulation” is an 11-v-11 animation showing your players' playstyle roles on the pitch.
